In Ileia's climate, protection from sandflies, ticks & fleas is crucial (sandflies also get through an ordinary mosquito net). Leishmaniasis/ehrlichia screening campaign in autumn.

Preventing poisoning and accidents
Many emergencies can be avoided with a little care at home and in the garden.
- Keep chocolate, grapes and raisins, onion and garlic, xylitol (gum, sweets) and macadamia nuts away from your pet.
- Garden plants: oleander, sago palm and azalea are dangerous for dogs; lilies (and daylilies) are deadly for cats.
- Rat poison, slug bait and antifreeze stay in a locked cupboard. Antifreeze tastes sweet and is deadly.
- Never give human medicines (paracetamol, ibuprofen) without a vet's instruction.
- Never use a dog flea product containing permethrin on a cat.
- Never leave a pet in a parked car in summer; always provide shade and fresh water.
- If you suspect your pet swallowed something, call us at once, before any signs appear.
