How to measure

  • Pulse: feel the inner thigh or the heartbeat behind the left elbow — count 15 sec × 4.
  • Breathing: count the chest rising at rest (not after exercise), 15 sec × 4.
  • Temperature: rectally only, with a digital thermometer and a little lubricant.

When to worry

Breathing > 40/min at rest, temperature > 39.5 °C or < 37.5 °C, pale/blue/very red gums, or CRT > 2 sec — contact us immediately.
